“People do not open up. We hear about breakups, divorces, but we do not hear the struggles in between. No one talks about the process, the attempts to fix things, the solutions. Some suffer in silence, others face emotional damage, and some even commit suicide because they don’t know how to handle the pain of love gone wrong.”
South Sudanese artist Nicky Prince, best known for being one half of the iconic Hardlife Avenue Stars, has taken his influence beyond music, straight into the late-night airwaves, where love, heartbreak, and relationship struggles get raw and unfiltered discussions.
Nicky real names Siliman Musa says people listen to their love songs for comfort, but they never get a chance to talk back a reason he built his radio show, where real people with real struggles can finally share their stories.
“This is why this show exists, to brainstorm, to talk, to find solutions. Love should not break people; it should heal them. But some of you are out here treating relationships like a football match, no teamwork, just dribbling each other until someone gets tired and leaves.” The sad and broken Man U fan laments.
Nicky has strategically taken the quiet hours of the night when adults are, or planning to make babies to talk about issues of the heart and bed
The 10:00 PM to midnight slot is intentional because this is not a show for little kids. Relationships, sex, heartbreak, they are grown-up conversations. It is a safe space where adults can finally speak freely. Plus, let us be honest, this is the time when people are either overthinking their love life or texting their ex ‘I miss you’ for no reason.” He justifies his time.
Nothing makes love shows more interesting than the calls and he already has a taste of it. The vocalist turned love doctor says one of the most shocking calls he received was from a man who kept sneaking through his wife’s phone-checking her messages behind her back until she found out and that almost marked the end of their marriage.
“But here is the thing, he came to the show looking for advice and what did I tell him? talk it out, set boundaries just because you are married does not mean there should be no privacy. At first, it was hard for him, but he did it. And guess what, their marriage is thriving now.” Nicky bragged as if he won a trillion-dollar lottery (pun intended). He would rather advise partners to trust each other for better relationships “Trust matters, stop being insecure. If you keep checking your partner’s phone, one day you will find what you are looking for, and then you will start blaming the network provider for your heartbreak.”
Nicky says love should be simple, but people make it messy.
“You will find someone saying ‘I love you,’ but they also have a whole side relationship and that side relationship also has another side relationship! And the excuse, you cannot put all your eggs in one basket.’
He also says relationships today are sex-driven, materialistic, and full of people seeking revenge on their exes instead of seeking real love and when things fail, ‘I was used!’ becomes the anthem or ‘You used me!’ like it was some kind of business transaction. My dear, were you used or did you volunteer?
People are out here promising forever but still texting ‘goodnight baby’ to someone else. Some of you are in relationships but still applying for new ones like it’s a job vacancy.
Nicky admitted that hosting this show has made him rethink love.
“I sit there advising people on relationships, but after every single episode, I ask myself, “Am I practicing what I preach, or am I also drinking wine while telling others to drink water”? I reflect on my own relationship every single time. Because if I tell people to fix their love life, I better not be out here making the same mistakes”
When asked to describe love in two words, he laughed and says “Sweet, if it is genuine because when love grabs you, you are done for you will start doing things you swore you would never do, like writing long paragraphs or listening to sad songs at 2 AM” he honestly spat.
But even after all these episodes, all these calls, and all these confessions, there is still one question Nicky said he does not have an answer to.
“Why do people really fall in love? “
“I have never had a reason why I loved the people I loved. I just felt it but maybe that is how love should be without logic, without attachment because if love has a reason, it has conditions. And when those conditions disappear? So does the love”
For Nicky Prince, love is beautiful, chaotic, gut-wrenching, and worth every risk. And through his radio show, he is proving that no one has to figure it out alone.
Nicky Prince announced his entry to Capital FM last month to host the night show which has significantly gained listener-ship and following. After radio, will he join the army next? Only Nicky and time can tell but for now, tune on Capital FM to learn some new love tips.
