In a landmark gesture of corporate social responsibility, Zain South Sudan has officially handed over a fully equipped community health facility, including essential medical equipment and medicines, to the people of Twic County in Warrap State. The initiative marks a major step forward in the telecom company’s strategy to give back to communities across South Sudan.
The project, spearheaded by Zain South Sudan in close partnership with leaders from Warrap State specifically Twic County and the Ministry of Health, was born from a shared vision to uplift vulnerable rural communities. During the handover ceremony, Eng. Wilson Alsio also the acting Zain CEO shared Zain’s achievement and vision in working with communities in different sectors
“We are glad to launch the first clinic, one of its kind that zain is doing through the Cooperate social responsibility, a strategic initiative of Zain. We have supported public health before during COVID-19 and Ebola by setting up call centers, and also contributed to education and sports (football)through sponsorships,” he stated.
“At Zain we believe when giving services, the recipient has to be healthy so that when you communicate and enjoy the services, you feel everything is comprehensive. Zain believes in that and in the health of our people and making sure the community benefits” Wilson added.
He concluded with a powerful message of partnership and progress. “Zain is a wonderful world—but this wonderful world cannot be complete unless we all come together. This is just the beginning. We look forward to expanding to other locations and other states—not only through communication services, but also by delivering real social impact. We look forward to you witnessing great events coming ahead, this is the beginning, we will continue this partnership and we hope all can benefit from the community clinic” he concluded.
Zain’s Eng. Basel Kamel on his part, reflected on the idea’s inception.
“It started as an idea to support the rural communities. As Zain, we have always wanted to support the community together with Hon. Rehan, we discussed this idea, and the community supported us by offering a location and Zain helped by making it reachable and providing medical equipment and medicine.” He asserted.
He added that the initiative was implemented in consultation with Gudele Hospital, which provided doctors and nurses to the new clinic to carry out consultation.
“This is the first, and we hope we can work on a second location. With the results from this clinic, we aim to support more communities,” he added.
During the launch, representatives from Twic County were present and expressed heartfelt gratitude for Zain’s timely intervention, especially in light of recent challenges caused by severe flooding in the region.
Hon. Rehan Ajuet thanked Zain for taking services to communities and making communities feel as part of the telecom giant “We started having meetings and communications with Zain from April last year until this moment that the people of Warrap State and Twic County in particular are going to be beneficiaries of this service”
Hon Rehan added that even though the journey has been long, it has finally paid off and this is just start for many things ahead “You need to receive Zain as part of you not just as a telecommunications company because from telecommunications they have now entered health and hopefully they will venture into more areas in the communities. This is the beginning and we look for more partnerships” he added.
His colleague, Hon. George Akot acknowledged the crucial role Zain has played in responding to local needs
“We greatly appreciate Zain South Sudan for creating this link between the company and our community in Twic which has been vulnerable due to the flooding crisis. This has left many in need of healthcare, and we hope that through this partnership, we can reach other areas, not just in Twic.” He said.
This clinic handover sets a new benchmark for how public-private partnerships can transform lives in South Sudan. With community-centered development at its core, Zain South Sudan is not only connecting people through technology—but also through compassion, collaboration, and care.
As the clinic begins serving patients, the hope among community leaders and Zain’s representatives is clear: “This is the first of many”.
